The Local Motion Surf Into Summer Presented by HTA, a World Surf League (WSL) men's and women's Qualifying Series (QS) 2,000-level event, is underway at the South Shore of O'ahu's Ala Moana Bowls. The event features top seeds making their stunning debuts, with Merrik Mochkatel and Finn McGill showcasing their talent, and defending event winners Vaihitimahana Inso and Ezekiel Lau continuing their excellence. The men's and women's rounds witnessed near-perfect performances, with Mochkatel and McGill posting 10-point rides, and Inso and Lau showcasing their power and variety. The event organizers will reconvene at 7:00 a.m. HST for an 8:00 a.m. start, and the competition is heating up with more pumping conditions expected.
In the men's Round of 64, Mochkatel and McGill showcased their talent, with Mochkatel posting a perfect 10-point ride and McGill earning a 10-point ride as well. Vaihitimahana Inso and Ezekiel Lau also continued their excellence, with Inso posting a dominant 16.60 heat total and Lau showcasing his world-class form. The women's Quarterfinals saw Puamakamae DeSoto lead the charge with an 8.75 and 15.85 heat total, and fellow event winner Moana Jones Wong put on a barrel-hunting clinic with a 14.65 heat total.
